Design & Development

When it comes to S85 intake design the most important factor is INTAKE TEMPERATURES
The majority of intake systems on the market are open designs which allow high temperature engine bay air to enter the intake system.

This has has a two tier negative effect:
- The most understood effect is that the hotter engine bay air is less dense in oxygen which naturally produces less power.
- The second effect is less well understood.  The ECU detects the higher temperature air through the intake air temperature sensor located inside the MAF sensor.  The ECU temperature compensation tables will reduce ignition timing which has a significant effect on power output and throttle response.
This is often not seen on dyno testing of open intakes as most tests are performed with the bonnet open.

The Infinity Design intakes are fully sealed with lower Inlet Air Ducts housings which have been meticulously designed to allow for maximum air flow and fit directly into the two large factory air inlet ducts creating a perfect seal which keeps the intake air temperatures at their lowest point at all times and thus giving the best possible performance.

The upper section of the intake is made up of two venturi tubes with integrated MAF housings to smooth out the airflow which in turn improves throttle response and increase HP. The less the engine has to work in drawing in the air the more power it can potentially generate.

High Flow Air Filters & Intake Temperatures

Our bespoke short stack high surface area filter larger than any cone filter design currently on offer on the market with a huge opening of 170mm (6 3/4") and is designed to take full advantage of the intake tubes by altering the direction of the airflow towards the outer walls.  By placing the air filters in front of the inlet tube we achieve the largest velocity stack.

Both in-house and independent testing has shown intake temperatures which are equivalent to the OEM system which always achieves intake temperatures which are the same as the outside ambient air.

PERFORMANCE TESTING

Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on an independent Dynojet dynamometer in order to show a true and realistic result.

An intake system which performs both on the dyno and the real world with a realistic gain of 12-15hp at high rpm's where the OEM intake becomes restrictive
