Design
For the GR Corolla, the decision was made to develop a new turbo inlet with a smoother, less restrictive airflow path, following a similar design philosophy to the GR Yaris system while retaining the same proven inlet tube.
The front air feed presented two possible approaches. The first was to retain the factory slam panel, drawing air through its relatively small opening while supplementing the remaining airflow from the top and sides of the engine bay. Although more cost-effective, this approach would compromise the overall performance potential of the intake system.
The alternative was to design an entirely new slam panel from the ground up, allowing the front air feed to be optimised for maximum airflow while increasing the supply of cool, external air to the intake.
The latter approach was chosen, prioritising performance over cost and simplicity.
